Kids Tao Subconscious – Episode 16

2025, a time when existential crises are happening on the global and the personal level. Ironically, it is also a time to learn from kids playing outside, using outside energy and outside voices. They may not have to worry bills and yardwork, but they have to worry about classes and making sense of a world where they barely know the rules. They do, however, know, without training, how to be alive in the moment.

Adults may know about such a perspective and may phrase it as philosophizing about the Tao Te Ching, the essence of going with the flow. We talked about how much things have changed in the previous twelve months, and how things twelve months from now may be equally unpredictable. Ride that wave and dodge those dancing elephants known as oligarchs.

If your conscious mind is overwhelmed in this weird world, your subconscious may be sorting things through – if you give it the time to get past the clutter of headlines and seemingly irrational policies and news bites. We played with some ideas, tactics, and ways to cope… And there’s that word again: play. We can’t ignore the crises in the world, but we shouldn’t ignore the people who see a changing world every day, children who are awash in their exploration and discovery of yet another aspect of a world that is always new to them.

Sometimes the healthier refuge may be a blanket fort, a hiking trail, a clarity break, or hanging out with friends, whether you’re at the playing tag age, or the hanging out of the diner age. There are solutions out there. If being too serious about them isn’t working, maybe try playing with them. It works for kids, and we all were one years ago.
