Food Weather Travel – Episode 17

Getting Everybody Better – That’s a fine idea. Maybe we should make that a bumper sticker. We ended there, which may lead to a future episode about an organization that Steve teased us with. For now, an excellent sentiment and a mystery. The suspense builds.

We talked about joy juice, ice roads, weather, and travel, but we probably spent more time talking about farms and sports.

There’s a frequently overlooked disconnect between food and people. Too many people do not know that french fries and potato chips don’t have to come from factories. Food arrives packaged, ready to take home and cook; though lately, food arrives at home and already cooked. The distance between a potato and a chip in a bag is great. But is it more worrisome that many people don’t know where their food comes from and how it is harvested and made? Where is the potato chip fairy?

How about the disconnect between games that are things to play for fun and sports which have grown into a major industry? At a guess, more people watch sports than play them. We call them games, but they aren’t about play or fun. Corporate interests name stadiums and encourage other teams’ players to be disloyal enough to switch from their home team, a team that may not be anywhere near their home. How pervasive has disloyalty become? How uncommon has it become to play a game for fun rather than dominance or profit?

Yes, we are like two old guys sitting on a porch and complaining about the kids, but in our case, the kids are clueless CEOs.

As usual, we rambled, ranted, raved, and generally very organically linked disparate topics that might learn something from each other – or not. Hey! Go play on your own lawn!
