Essential workers are brave, especially as their infrastructure is challenged. Other folks are brave too, particularly, the people who know they need to find a new way to live. That can be as seemingly easy and romantic as moving to the countryside, but others around the world have found they had to literally dig down to find their way to live in uncomfortable climates, like in Star Wars, or Morocco.

We talked about some of their challenges, and some of their benefits. Historically, they’ve had old folks to ask about how things were done. Now, they also have modern resources like the online world where they can ask questions about how to live in the off-line world.

Wells and outhouses are topics for city conversations, but they become essential facilities to create and manage appropriately for people who are hunting for a version of a simpler life – even if that life is or isn’t romantic, is or isn’t simple, and is or isn’t taking advantage of modern niceties like solar power and LEDs. Other utilities and services are decentralizing. New ways of living are being defined.

People are making changes, but we may be so early in any new trend that it isn’t making headlines – yet. Stay tuned.
