Walking Talking Wawa – Episode 8

What would you do with an abandoned service station? How often do you walk and talk rather than text with friends? Do you realize that your life can seem too dull to mention, but that others might find it fascinating? It’s OK to shake your head and wonder about that, but what you say may be worth more to them than it is to you. Why deny them your perspective?

We wandered through those topics but not in that order.

Skip the romantic way old times were; but remember the practical aspects of talking to a person for more than a few words at a time, and in a way where you can read body language. A tilt of the head, or a shrug can be richer than what they said. Both of us have sessions of walking and talking with friends rather than sitting and drinking with them. Sitting is fine. Drinking (responsibly) can be too. But moving instead of sitting creates a different dynamic and becomes its own story. The irony is that Steve is on the US East Coast and Tom (me) is on the US West Coast (with apologies to the far west that is Alaska, Hawaii, and lots of islands.) We don’t get to walk and talk much.

We also played with ideas for what to do with old service stations and whether Wawa (not a publicly traded company, rats) can meet a need for places to congregate and maybe get something done while EVs recharge.

Simple ideas are sweet, but sometimes they are overlooked because they are too simple, too obvious. There’s always an idea that everyone else overlooked, except for one person who pointed at it and said, “Hey! This is a neat idea. Someone should do something about that. No one else is interested? OK. Maybe it’s got to be me.” And then they become a billionaire.

Listen in because you know we talked about much more than that, and the audio includes the laughter. Maybe that’s the most important part of a conversation between friends.
