#OldGuyhood, a hashtag built from a word coined by Steve Smolinksy. Let that conjure images of coffee in a diner, whiskey in some bar, or, in reality, we two guys recording this episode. Old images are replaced with modern realities. This year is yet another one requiring all of us to accommodate a new set of realities. It might be a fertile field for consultants, teachers, therapists, and creative people. We started with mentioning a creative friend of ours, Holly Thomas, poet, writer, city planner (?), and editor. One of her sets of poems is in the book titled Pluck Another Apple, Eve, And Finish It. She is also someone seeking solutions by traveling and returning and continuing on Travels of a Gregarious Hermit. Will more of us be nomads, too, or settling somewhere else?
Our conversation also wandered and wondered through new-old solutions like trains, slowing down to take longer views and listens in contrast to speedy living, and to encouraging everyone to listen to others more as we navigate through civilization’s exposed shoals that may be a prelude to the tsunami of a Digital Singularity.
These are fascinating and frustrating times when digital answers and help may be nearly instantaneous, but can also be so bureaucratic and cumbersome that doing things in person with another person may be preferred.
